Toms has given over 2 million pairs of shoes to children and adults in need since it began in 2006. The company recently expanded its unique business model to include eyeware, helping to save and restore sight for those in need. Toms humble beginnings happened unintentinally while travleing in argentina in 2006. Blake witnessed the hardships of the children and also the adults growing u and living without shoes. His solution to this problem was simple but revolutionary. To create a for profit company that was sustainable and not reliant on donations. Blakes vision soon turned into the simple business idea that provided the foundation for TOMs. over the couse of its first 5 years , Toms was successful enough in providing shoes for children in need. Blake, having brecognized other vital needs during his journeyaround the world, realize that one could be applied to more than shoes. So he developed Toms eye wear in which every pair purchased, TOMS will help give sight to a person in need. From shoes to eyewear blakes unique approach to business has awarded him with numerous accolades. In 2009, Blake and Toms recieved the secretary of states 2009 award of corporate excellence.
